I saw a U2410 next to a U2711 in store side by side (with a Samsung S-PLS a short distance) away and cant say they were notably grainy either so take what I say with a grain of salt.I got used to the dusty looking AG coating, but wondered if anyone with knowledge of Dells recent Ultrasharp AG coatings like on the U2412M have tried the new S2440L I work in a pretty well controlled lighting environment, so I dont think reflections would be a problem.Sure wish Dell would just give people the option of AG coating or no AG coating, jeeze.
Sure wish Dell would just give people the option of AG coating or no AG coating, jeeze Your biggest visual difference coming from the U2311H is going to be due the type of LCD panel the S2440L uses - it is an A-MVA. Compared to the e-IPS of the U2311H, the off angle viewing of the S2440L shows more gammacolor shift. Compare the Viewing Angle image from the reviews on TFT Central. Also, like all VA panels, it has an inherent characteristic to crush the blacks when viewed from straight on. This can be controlled to some extent by the electronics used with the panel but it is still there. An image with a dark area may show detail on an IPS panel where with the MVA it will be a black blob until you move your head slightly to the side. Typically, current A-MVA monitors are providing measured black points of about 0.04 cdm2 where a current IPS panel is about 0.15 cdm2 Add to this a glossy front screen and it just gets more contrast. Dell, like all the monitor manufacturers, has started bringing in models using the latest generation of IPS panel supplied by LG Display. Its U2711 was much maligned for the matte anti-glare coating appearing gritty to many users. Compare the the U2711 to its replacements, the U2713H (wide gamut) and U2713HM (standard sRGB gamut) - generally positive comments on the new anti-glare coating. The U2413 is also said to use an improved matte anti-glare coating and the pending U3014 is also expected to have this. So it is not just limited to the 27 inch models but perhaps the models using the 23 and 21.5 inch econo e-IPS panel wont see this change for some time to come. Alternatively you could look to monitors using the S-PLS panel OEMd from the panel division of Samsung. These panels also have a very smooth matte anti-glare coating.. Newsy. I do some non-pro photo editing, web browsing, and line drawingfont work, which is why I thought the 2440 sounded interesting. I heard Samsung had a good AG coating on their screens, but had problems with bad light bleed I take it the U2412 did not get the lighter AG coating the U2413 got. The U2412M uses an older generation panel. FWIW. I have no issue with the AG coating on my U2412M.
